The Counseling and Information Center (CIC) for High Risk Youth (HIV/AIDS) in Quetta has been set up as a joint venture of SEHER and British High Commission Islamabad. The Center was needed as the drug users are main cause for the proliferation of HIV/AIDS, and the need was felt to curb the flow of such diseases by giving the drug users awareness through counseling and information to high risk youth through different social/ life skill sessions, dramas, skits and group works and regular counseling sessions. In due course of action it is learnt that only focus on drug users (DUs) or Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) may not produce the desired results, because children and youth irrespective of being in schools or in work places are more prone to violence and abuse, having direct links with the DUs and IDUs therefore both working children and youth were focused. The aim behind such center was/is to give awareness about drug use, its prevention, harm reduction and HIV AIDS prevention with the provision of support services. The CIC provided a platform for the IDUs to get the psychosocial treatment and also generated a referral mechanism for the IDUs to the Government and private centers. The CIC is equipped with Sociologists to mobilize the IDUs, a doctor, a teacher and a psychologist, center in charge and Coordinator.
